Are you addicted to Craigslist too?

Hi, my name is Ian Drake and I'm addicted to Craigslist. They say the first step to controlling addiction is to admit it. Apparently, the second step is to write software.

I created Ad Alert and Easy Ad Widget as part of my "recovery" process. I hope my free tools help your addiction too.

Get the best deals on Craigslist

The first item I ever sold on Craigslist was a two year old leather chair for which I paid $600, but priced at $50 (my wife wanted it GONE, ugh!). To my supprise, within ten minutes of posting the ad, I had six emails which left me scrambling to remove the ad from Craigslist.

It was at this moment I realized the #1 truth of Craigslist: You don't see the best deals on Craigslist, you see the leftovers. Literally, you don't know what you're missing!

Ad Alert is your FREE ticket to scoring these hidden deals on Craigslist. Click here to find out more.

Manage your buyers one at a time.

Since that first chair I've sold many things on Craigslist. Unfortunately, most of my email transactions went something like this:

Buyer 1:"Is the item still available?"
Me:"Yes"
Buyer 1:"Can I come by and see it tomorrow at 5PM?"
Me:"Sure, here's my address..."
Buyer 2, 3, and 4:"Is the item still available?"
Me:"Someone is looking at it tomorrow. I'll let you know."

At this point I usually take the ad down because it's already generated more email than I want to deal with.

Next Day @ 5PM:NO SHOW! I wonder how often this guy flakes out?
Me to Buyer 2, 3, and 4:"The last guy didn't show up. Who wants it?"
Buyer 2, one hour later:"Is it still available?"
Me:"Yes"
Buyer 3, minutes later:"Is the item still available?"

What do I say at this point? I don't have anything set up with Buyer 2, but I just told him it was available...Ugh!

Easy Ad Widget is your solution for catch 22's, flakes, and tiresome emails. Click here to find out more.
